From your posts, I’m assuming you’re the author of the ‘ahmadiyyafactcheckblog’ site, as you reference it profusely.
Personally speaking, I’ve not found the content, tone, logic or sourcing there to be something that lends itself to being taken seriously. If that’s not your blog site, apologies for suggesting such.
Let’s examine the links you’ve provided:
- None of them state that this was an Ahmadi Muslim family.
However, even if it was (perhaps your cousins in Germany were in the same halqa and knew this family and could verify it), the rest of us have no way of making that connection.
Secondly, your comment implies that Ahmadiyya Islamic theology condones and/or advocates honor killings. It does not.
If you disagree, please show me the transcript or excerpt from a sermon or book from the Jama’at that makes such killings halal. I will then retract my strong rebuke and apologize to you.
This kind of talk I personally find irresponsible and juvenile. And I see it time and time again from people who’ve left the Jama’at to embrace orthodox Islam, which is even crazier (Ants talking to Solomon? Jesus pulling a Peter Pan instead of being on the cross, anyone?).
By all means, if you have a textual passage you want to quote and analyze, please present it here. Let’s keep it academic and stay clear of the arm-chair psychology and gross generalizations.
Now, back to this murder case from 2015 that you cited. For argument’s sake, let’s say it actually was an Ahmadi Muslim family.
Remember that many people are born into communities and the cultural tide of indoctrination is stronger than the teachings of the religion itself. The Jama’at does not proactively ex-communicate people for not being religiously knowledgeable enough. Nor should they.
In any population; be that Ahmadi Muslims, Sunni Muslims, Shia Muslims, Baptist Christians, Mormon Christians, Atheists, etc., you are going to have people who are unhinged. It’s the law of large numbers.
In this murder case, it’s the power of a patriarchal honor culture that dominated this father’s thinking. Ahmadiyya Islam from the texts (i.e. the Qur’an) only advocate for lashing for sex outside of marriage; not murder. The last time murder was condoned by Muhammad himself for zina, according to Ahmadiyyat, was in early Islam, before the Qur’anic verse about lashing was revealed.
Nowhere in any Ahmadi Muslim sermon will you find a tacit or explicit approval of killing such people. If there was such a thing, that’s what you should have posted, and that’s what we could have talked about.
Don’t blame a religion for what the odd crazy person does, unless you can make a clear and plausible connection to the theology and teachings of that faith.
